WHR RESULTS

Since the campaign launched in 2007, "World Hunger Relief” has leveraged the power of approximately 40,000 restaurants around the world, sparking a global movement to end hunger and generating an overwhelming outpouring of support from millions of customers, employees, franchisees and their families.

As a result of the campaign, Yum! and its brands - KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell - raised maximum awareness through TV, print, public-service announcements, public relations, social media, web-based communications and in-restaurant posters and signage around the world.

In the past six years, nearly 1.5 million employees, franchisees and their families have volunteered millions of hours to aid hunger relief efforts in communities worldwide. The effort has raised nearly $150 million for the World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief organizations and is helping to provide 600 million meals and save the lives of millions of people in remote corners of the world.

Impact of 2012 Efforts:

  • A record-breaking $33 million raised for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Provided 132 million meals in more than 45 countries to help end world hunger
  • Helping to provide an average of $50 million worth of prepared meals to hunger relief agencies through our Harvest program
  • Nearly 1.5 million employees, franchisees and their families have volunteered millions of hours to aid world hunger relief efforts

Impact of 2011 Efforts:

  • A record-breaking $30 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Helping to provide more than 110 million meals to help end world hunger
  • First $1 million directed to hunger relief efforts in the Horn of Africa

Impact of 2010 Efforts:

  • A record-breaking $24.5 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Helping to provide more than 98 million meals to help end world hunger
  • More than 1.4 million employees and franchisees around the globe volunteered six million volunteer hours at hunger relief agencies, food banks and soup kitchens.

Impact of 2009 Efforts:

  • A record-breaking $22.5 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Helping to provide more than 90 million meals and save the lives of millions where WFP has the greatest need
  • More than 1.4 million employees and franchisees around the globe volunteered six million volunteer hours at hunger relief agencies, food banks and soup kitchens.

Impact of 2008 Efforts:

  • $20 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Helping to provide more than 80 million meals and save the lives of nearly 1 million people around the world where WFP has the greatest need
  • WFP’s school meals and disaster relief programs benefited from WHR impacting nearly 1 million children and families in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Benin, Cape Verde, Djibouti, Egypt, Ghana, Gambia, Mozambique, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Peru, and Nicaragua
  • $1.3 million went to WFP school meal programmes in Benin fully funding the programme for 3 months
  • Nearly 13,000 mothers and their children received nutritional support for 6 months in Guatemala
  • The World Hunger Relief Campaign has helped families in Haiti since 2008:
    • After the hurricane season of 2008, Haiti received $ 1 million in support of WFP’s school meals allowing the program to feed 35,000 children for six months
    • When the devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, Yum! immediately responded to WFP’s appeal, donating $685,000 to emergency operations and allowing WFP to deliver life saving food to nearly 300,000 earthquake survivors

Impact of 2007 Efforts:

  • Raised $16 million for WFP and other hunger relief organizations
  • Helped feed over 1.6 million people in 13 countries around the world where WFP had the greatest need
  • Fed 8.2 million school meals to over 41,000 children in Guatemala, El Salvador, Rwanda, Lesotho, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia

Provided emergency assistance to:

  • Ethiopia: allowed the school feeding program to continue for one year, reaching 438,000 primary school age children
  • Bolivia: provided 100,000 people affected by floods with fortified meals for one month
  • Somalia: provided 685,000 people affected by civil conflict with fortified meals for one month
  • Pakistan: provided 132,000 people affected by floods with fortified meals for one month
  • Peru: provided 80,000 survivors of an earthquake with rice for a month
  • Bangladesh: provided 209,000 victims of Cyclone Sidr with fortified meals for one month
